Inside the Cubo

PROCESS

At CUBO the salvaging, milling, drying, design, and fabrication is all done one piece at a time. Each product produced are keenly given attention from the design conception, wood selection, cutting, smoothing, finishing, from the over-all aesthetics to the smallest details of joineries By investing time, patience, and the creativity of our highly-skilled team, we are able to create high quality pieces. Our tight-knit team keeps the entire process in-house to ensure the highest quality furniture and attention to detail at every step.

Raw materials (wood) are carefully chosen from sources, seasoned and dried for several months before they enter into production. Woods that are ready are then manually cleaned, sanded and stored for production preparation. Main production uses both manual and machine labor.  Finishing applied are minimal (mostly for protection and preservation) not only to maintain and enhance the natural feature of the wood, but also lessen environmental effects. By products like wood chips and saw dusts are also conceived into new products thus minimizing waste disposals.

TECHNICAL

Manual and machine assisted labors are used during production. After a thorough selection process, woods are seasoned naturally and exposed to weather. After months of seasoning and drying they are then cleaned and sanded manually. They are cut using chainsaw (large) and hand saw (small) they are planed and smoothened using hand planers and further smoothen manually. Woods are joined without using nails. They are constructed using in-house developed joineries. Finishing involves minimal chemical, exposing the material only to coat, protect and preserve without masking the natural details of the woodI'm a paragraph. AESTHETICS

Our aesthetic aims to deliver and reflect a utilitarian approach to design and carefully considers both form and function. This modest approach allows the age and natural contour of the materials to speak for themselves. Reclaimed, salvaged and drift woods are rich with character and often bears the scars of time——nail holes, cracks, checks and saw marks all reflect the material’s previous life as a piece of history.

When it comes to design, we're inspired by nature itself. The color, figure, and shape of each individual slab guide our design decisions. All of the knots, unusual grain patterns, and color variation – the "imperfections" that mainstream manufacturers cut away and discard – are the features that give each piece of Cubo furniture its unique character that can never be replicated.

WASTE DISPOSAL

Cubo is an advocate of sustainability. We aim to maintain a sustainability chain by generating more products from by products. Thus producing minimal waste materials. By-products are being segregated to determine what could be of further use vs. trash. Wood trimmings are re-purposed into accessories (bowls, trays etc.), smaller trimmings into smaller decors and accents (key chains, mosaic) and saw dusts are gathered (sometimes dyed) and bottled as decorative accents. Cans, plastics and the likes are given up for recycling. Trash and unwanted materials are properly segregated before collected and thrown on their respective dumpsites
